Mr. Lu is the co-founder, President and CEO of OpenConcept Systems, Inc. As CEO of OpenConcept Systems, Mr. Lu focuses on developing large scale web applications and mobile applications in the area of web content management, healthcare, and mobile conference management.
Prior to founding OpenConcept, Mr. Lu spent more than 16 years working at AOL leading technology teams working on core infrastructure systems and applications. Being the longest tenured and most respected technology leader at AOL, Mr. Lu has collaborated with his business partners and worked with them to drive strategic programs over the years to achieve optimal business results. With strong background in computer science and math and years of experience in large-scale information system engineering, Mr. Lu is a unique executive that can work with technical staff of all levels to provide the leadership and vision to ensure continuous success.
From 2006 to 2009, Mr. Lu was Vice President of Publishing Technologies at AOL. He supported a $250 million plus business unit of AOL with a technology organization of 250 people in 5 locations across the globe. He administered a $25 million technology budget and defined and drove the department through a significant technology, skill set, and culture transformation to use Open Source technologies. Mr. Lu initiated and implemented process improvement to enhance the quality of software applications and reduce development costs while shortening the development timeline. In 2008, Mr. Lu successfully led his team to build new AOL News, Sports and Money and Finance, and KOL (Kids Only) sites using Open Source technologies resulting in quicker to market and better performance of the applications.
From 2002-2006, Mr. Lu was Vice President of AOL Services Infrastructure. He managed a technology department of 300 employees with an annual budget of $41 million working on AOL’s connectivity, authentication, core user data, web acceleration infrastructure, TopSpeed, parental controls and web filtering, real time tracking, etc. He led a team of architects across the company and defined the AOL Technology Roadmap for its Chief Technology Officer. Later, Mr. Lu led the implementation of the AOL Platform using Service Oriented Architecture and laid the foundation for AOL Open Services.
From 1991 to 2002, Mr. Lu worked as a software developer and moved up to a senior technical director working on a wide range of infrastructure systems and products at AOL.
Mr. Lu has also worked as a consultant for the Securities and Exchange Commission on the EDGAR (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval) system.
Prior to AOL, Mr. Lu worked as a Systems Manager at CompuMark US, an online trademark search company from 1988 to 1991. He redesigned and implemented the online search system and managed the operation of the entire system to support his business customers.
Mr. Lu was a PhD candidate at the Computer Science Department of George Washington University. He earned a Master of Engineering degree in engineering from Beihang University in Beijing and a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xian, China.
Mr. Lu is author and co-author for 15 approved US patents.
